John Mueller Obituary

John Paul Mueller, age 65, of the township of LaValle Wisconsin, passed away April 4, 2024 following a brief stay at the SSM Hospice of Baraboo. John was born May 29, 1958 in Milwaukee, WI to Hilmore and Joneva Mueller. He married Rebecca Ann Darneal on July 5, 1980 in San Diego California, where he was stationed for the 6 years of his Naval career.

John took great pride in his military service as did his commanding officers. In letters of recommendation it indicates, “Mr. Mueller’s personal qualities and technical skills have enabled him to become an outstanding performer.  I, V. A. Schneider, LCDR, USN, will genuinely regret to have him leave, however, I am confident that he will become an invaluable asset to your company.”  Another recommendation from his squad commander, Douglas M. Wade, STGCS (SW), states “John Mueller is a highly valuable asset to any organization.”  John’s contributions to the Navy were qualified as  “Skills in the development of business oriented software which provides both efficiency and user friendliness.”  His commanders praise John for performance under stress, inventiveness, and goal achievement.  John acquired skills in electronics equipment maintenance and creation of improved maintenance/operation procedures. He was the production leader in completion of the training material for AN/SQQ-23 PAIR, in charge of the MANGASEE program, provided the preventive and corrective maintenance for the AN/SQQ-23, and was assistant to the Classified Vault Custodian.  John is highly praised for his initiative, professionalism and expertise in all of his work for the Navy.  John would indicate that this is what could be talked about in his naval career and there was much more for which his service remains classified.  He has several plaques also marking his Naval achievements.

These Navy skills and those from his degrees from National University in Electronics both Basic and Advanced and Systems Operations and Maintenance, contributed to his significant career as a technical writer. He and his wife, Rebecca, collaborated in this business, John writing the books and Rebecca editing copy, reaching out to publishers, and supporting John with the day to day running of their household. John authored 124 books and was working on his 125th book with his frequent collaborator, Luca Massaron. He wrote technical exams in the last few years and technical articles for technical publications. He was the ghost writer for many famous computer and technical giants. He has numerous awards for his books including an award for the technical book of the year. He supported a blog post so that those who did embrace his books had a resource to reach out to for further explanation and assistance at john@johnmuellerbooks.com. The blog also supported his variety of interests in self-sustaining farming, the galaxy, science, technology, and the wonders of how the world works and flows.  From his office in LaValle, John reached the world.  His books have been translated into 32 different languages. His collaborator and friend Luca, resides in Italy, his reviewer in Eastern Europe, and the numerous others that are from a global writer’s and publishing community that only John is aware of.  John also has two creative works that he published, “The Gunky Cookbook '' and the “Tail of the Wuggly Bump”.

John relished community and friends. John enjoyed a good deep conversation, attending plays and concerts, going to movies, listening to music, and traveling to Milwaukee. He enjoyed his weekly coffee clutch with friends on a local farm, including time with children in the household. Their drawings cheered him in his last days. His love for knowledge led to his volunteering at the library both in LaValle and, early in his life, in San Diego, where he was recognized for his library service. In LaValle, his technical skills helped him to rescue and preserve historical film materials for the library following the significant flooding to the community.  John also treated everyone around town and everyone he visited with his latest cookie.  He experimented all the time with cookie recipes and came up with new and creative renditions. It is believed this cookie making was his way to stay connected to and console himself following the death of his wife Rebecca in 2014.

John requested and is receiving full military honors for his funeral. He will have a Navy chaplain to officiate, the Watch prayer read, and the Missing Man Table in a place of honor for him at this celebration of his life.  His services are private. Those in attendance have significance in John’s life and memory. He is being buried with his wife Rebecca at Greenwood Cemetary in Reedsburg.

John has 3 charities that he has made room for in his legacy. Memorials to these charities would be appreciated. Memorials can be sent or made out to the LaValle Public Library, CAL Center Presents, Inc., and or Sauk County for the restoration of Hemlock Park.

To those who knew John, nothing needs to be said about this vibrant, brilliant, quirky-natured man and the love he shared with those who accepted him for who he was. To all others, an opportunity was missed in appreciating and loving this kind and humble man.

Per John’s request a private funeral will be held at a later date.
