Welcome to the memorial page for

Duane A. Catlin

January 6, 1934 ~ June 6, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Duane Arthur Catlin passed away on June 6th, 2017 at Columbia County Health Care in Wyocena from Alzheimer’s Disease.  He was 83.

Duane was born in Portage on January 16, 1934 to John (Davy) and Margaret (Peg) Catlin.  Duane graduated from Portage High School in 1953 and was raised within one block from where he went to school.  He loved sports and was active in basketball and boxing.  Duane attended Platteville College.  On May 19, 1956 he married Marjorie Ann Schultz from Coloma.

Duane worked for the Columbia County Department of Natural Resources for the first few years of marriage.  He then worked for Milwaukee Road Railway System out of Portage as a conductor for 18 years.  Duane also sold insurance for Rural Insurance Co. in Pardeeville and worked as a security officer for Martin Security.  His last career before retiring was at the Waupun Correctional Institution where he was a correctional officer.

Duane loved to hunt and fish and was in his favorite spot when he was out on his dock or on his shoreline on Park Lake in Pardeeville.  Duane also loved sports of any kind, but was an avid Packer and Badger fan.  It was hard to pull him away from the TV if there was a game on with a ball involved.  After retiring, Duane also enjoyed panning for gold and finding treasures with his metal detector when he and Marge traveled across the United States in their motorhome.  They enjoyed traveling together in Europe a few times also and Duane’s favorite was driving around the little villages of France.

Duane is survived by his wife Marjorie (Marge) of 61 years.  His children Candice (Robert) Peters of Rochester, MN, Cory (Jessica) Catlin of Portage, and Colin Catlin of Pardeeville; seven grandchildren, Megen (Rob) Meier, Nolan (Fadia) Greene, Kyle Greene (girlfriend Marle), Ben (Jennifer) Peters, Ian (Jessica Niesen) Peters, Kevin Catlin (girlfriend Adriana), and Ashley Catlin Morris; eleven great-grandchildren Garrett, Emmett, Bennett, Warren, Lucas, Ashley, Claire, Emilie, Henry, Donovan, and Sara; two brothers John and Gary Catlin, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Kay Manley.

Duane has requested cremation with a memorial service to be held Friday, June 23 at 11 AM at the United Methodist Church in Pardeeville with Rev. Kerry Wilson officiating. A short visitation will be held from 10:30 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin in Duane’s name; www.alzwisc.org, 2825 Hunter’s Trail, Portage, WI 53901. (608) 742-9055.
