Dale E. Strmiska

A pillar of the Rio Community, Dale E. Strmiska, passed away unexpectedly March 16, 2018.

Dale Emory Strmiska was born September 10, 1932 in Stanton, Nebraska to Frank and Agnes Strmiska.  He was united in marriage to Liane Breunig on April 25, 1953 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Sauk City.  Liane preceded him in death June 20, 2017.

Dale was a man of faith, service, and community.  He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was fortunate to have gone on the Badger Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2015.  Anyone who knew him appreciated his sense of humor, his wit, and his compassion.   He was a mentor to many and a friend to all.

He is survived by his children:  Kimberly (Steve) Shanks, Portage; Brenda (Jack) Christensen, Portage; Sheila Strmiska, Baraboo; Kelly Taylor, Rio; Shelly Kubicek, Madison; Kenneth Strmiska (Sabina Singh), Green Bay; and Katherine (Todd) Parlier, Wisconsin Dells.  He is further survived by grandchildren Jeremy Shanks, Stephanie (Ike Lanman) Shanks, Dawn (Joshua) LeHuray; Lance Bennett, Shauna Vick, Angela (Brian) Varn, Chad (Ashley) Alford, Heather Kubicek, Tyler Kubicek, Nicholas Taylor (Kayla Schiesser), Jessica (Kyle) Chandler, and Stacy (Michael) Seleskie.  He was also great-grandfather to Justyn, Drew, Haley, Gavin, Hannah, Brooke, Caleb, Abbey, Addison, and Kennedy. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday March 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rio with Father Balaraju Eturi, Father Paul Eruva, and Father Raymond Dischler co-presiding.  Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio and again from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church Thursday.

Dale always said he had to get back to Rio every evening to turn on the street lights.  Although we all will remember him for various reasons, we are united in our sorrow of his passing.
