Welcome to the memorial page for

Charles V. Homman

May 2, 1945 ~ July 25, 2017 (age 72) 72 Years Old

Charles “Charlie” V. Homman age 72 of Rio died on Tuesday July 25, 2017 from a brief battle with cancer.

Charlie was born May 2, 1945 to Lawrence and Margaret (Uebersetzig) Homman and raised in Middleton. He graduated from Middleton High School.

Charlie was on the Madison Fire Department for 31 years from 1968-1999. He was a Paramedic, Firefighter, and Apparatus Engineer. He also worked many years delivering appliances for Sears.  After retiring from MFD, Charlie volunteered for 14 years on the Rio Fire Department where he also served as a Lieutenant.  He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and ham radios.  He loved all of his grandchildren and could often be found watching them play sports. He always enjoyed his weekly coffee visits with the “Columbia County Misfits”, the country rides with his wife and splitting wood.

He married Dalene “Day” Homman May 6, 1967 in Middleton at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. They lived in Middleton for two years before moving to the west side of Madison.  They lived in Madison for 19 years, then in 1988 relocated to Rio, where they currently reside.

Charlie is survived by his wife Dalene, and children Heidi (Steve) Sheldon, Traci (Chris) Koltz, Jeff (Sarah) Homman, and Chris (Jennifer) Homman; grandchildren Matthew (Erin) Adams, Joshua Sheldon, Amanda and Caitlin Sheldon, Ethan and Noah Koltz, Natasha and Zachrey (Taylor) Homman, William and Charles Homman; siblings Carol (Jerry) Dolfen, Korene (Monty) Glick, and Michael (Diane) Homman; mother-in-law Dorothy Day, brother-in-law Dennis (Nancy) Day and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Dale Day.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 29 at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rio. Visitation will be held Friday, July 28 from 3 to 7 PM at Grasse Funeral Home in Rio. Visitation will also be held from 10 AM until the time of services at the church on Saturday.

Charlie leaves behind an amazing group of friends from the Madison Fire Department, Rio Fire Department and friends of the family. Their visits during this past week and a half completely brightened his days. Our family was blessed to see his face light up when any of you entered his room.  It was a great comfort to all of us, thank you!
